Watch: National Storytelling Week Highlights

Children across our five primary schools shared their love of reading during a week of fun-filled activities as part of .

Children at Colley Lane Primary Academy, Goldsmith Primary Academy, Manor Way Primary Academy, Rivers Primary Academy and Tenterfields Primary Academy joined forces to share their favourite stories, take part in reading challenges and create art based on characters from books.

Among the many highlights were the 'get caught' reading competition and storytelling challenges. The get caught reading competition required children to get caught reading in strange and unusual places. Children indeed rose to the challenge and got caught reading in the bath, up trees and at the dentist!

The storytelling challenges tasked children with creating and narrating stories with their class. Children reenacted their favourite stories using art, props and puppets, created their own unique River Monster story and had to guess the name of stories based on a series of clues.

Across ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ reading is a priority, embedded into our curriculum and children are encouraged to develop a love of reading. Our children were delighted to share their love of reading during National Storytelling Week and speaking about the celebrations, Matt Meckin, Director of Primary at ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ said:

"It was brilliant to see our students showcase their love of reading in such a creative and engaging way. Reading is one of the priorities across our primary schools, and our children have truly demonstrated their love of reading as part of National Storytelling Week."
