The Role

We are seeking a Head of Community Development to join the WAT Central Team based at our offices in either Halesowen or Great Wyrley. You will work closely with the Director of Communications in advancing WAT’s commitment to Civic Leadership (Big Move 3 of our 2022-25 strategy). The post-holder will support the implementation of WAT’s civic strategy to deliver our vision of ensuring that all children can thrive.

This role will involve leading the development of community hubs, engaging with external stakeholders, and fostering partnerships to enhance the health and wellbeing outcomes of young people. The post-holder will also lead our school Civic Leads and work with them to ensure that each school develops and implements a community plan which addresses identified needs, in consultation and collaboration with key stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support delivery of WAT’s community strategy to ensure each school serves as a civic anchor within its community.

  • Lead the delivery of two new community hubs, to offer needs-based community services, at WAT schools in the Walsall and South Staffordshire Learning Communities.

  • Identify and build strong relationships with external stakeholders, including the NHS, other civic anchors, community groups, and third-party organisations to enhance WAT’s community impact.

  • Lead the Civic Leads across WAT schools to develop a strong understanding of each school’s community and ensure the development and delivery of community plans that address local needs.

  • Share good practice across WAT, including arranging and leading professional learning meetings between school Civic Leads and engaging with cross-trust/ cross-sector networking opportunities.

  • Lead initiatives that integrate community activities into the culture of WAT schools, engaging leaders and staff in civic leadership.

  • Report to the Director of Communications regarding the implementation and impact of the trust’s community plans.
